In commemoration of the 16th anniversary of the World Press Freedom Day, UNIC Bujumbura co-organized with the Press House of Burundi and the Burundian Association of Journalists a Workshop on the local theme, "Editorial Independence and solidarity of the media as the base of the Democratic Governance in Burundi". This activity took place on 3 May 2006 in the Press House conference room. The UNIC speech based on the Secretary General's message and other relevant UN official texts was presented by the UNIC Acting Director, M. Ibrahima Fall.
